What is Endometriosis, its Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment?

                                                                                Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue that's like the lining of the uterus grows in other places in the body, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It can cause painful and heavy periods and it can make it hard for some women to have babies.

Endometriosis affects roughly 10% of reproductive-age women and girls globally (WHO,2021).

The exact cause of endometriosis is unknown, but it is believed to be linked to hormonal imbalances and genetic factors.

The symptoms of endometriosis are different for each person, but they can include painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, pain during or after sexual intercourse, painful bowel movements, painful urination, fatigue, depression or anxiety, abdominal bloating, etc.

There are treatments that can help with these symptoms, like medicine that can stop pain and hormones that can help with your menstrual cycle and reduce the growth of endometrial tissue. In more severe cases, surgery may be necessary. One type of surgery involves cutting away patches of endometriosis tissue to reduce pain and improve fertility.

If you are experiencing painful or heavy periods, chronic pelvic pain, or difficulty getting pregnant, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider about your symptoms. They can help you figure out what's causing the pain and help you decide what treatment is best for you.
